Hello.

My name is Tarah Van Wyk and I am the owner and designer at Magpie Calls.

I live and work in the beautiful Upper-highway area of KZN, on the East Coast of  South Africa.

I have always considered myself a Magpie (A bird which is attracted to and collects shiny objects), but my passion for making pretty and shiny things started when I became a belly dancer and had to make my own costumes and accessories. I had some enquiries from fellow dancers and started to create pieces for them.

The name “Magpie Calls”  comes from my desire to attract fellow “Magpies” to my creations. Those who see and appreciate the finer details and want to collect a piece of their own.

Having started out making general accessories I chose to focus primarily on Bridal and Special Occasion accessories from 2016. It makes me extremely happy to be a part of someone’s love story or special day and help them to complete their “look”.

I LOVE custom work and creating something truly unique and fitting for YOU! Often it is my clients which spark off new designs and my favorite part is getting photos back and seeing how my work fits into your day!

I work with new and old/vintage elements and collect bits from various sources, this means that certain components are one of a kind or limited and I feel this adds to the special quality of a Magpie Calls creation. In fact this is what I specialize in- bespoke pieces that are uniquely you!
